Description Maori and the State de Richard S. Hill:

This book examines the principal interrelationships between the Crown and Maori through the 1950s and 60s, when Crown assimilationist policies intensified, and in the period from the 1970s, when the pressure of the 'Maori Renaissane' encouraged policies and goals based upon biculturalism (although Crown motivations were and remain problematic). Richard S. Hill is a professor at the Stout Research Center for New Zealand Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, where he directs the Treaty of Waitangi research unit. He is a historian who has specialized in subjects relating to policing and social control.
